Vintage Antique Pottery Ink Early 1890's English Victorian Langley Mills Bottle Salt Fired Second

This piece of very early stoneware is a little piece of colonial history.
It's a 'second' that has been rough fired and shows some damage on close inspection.
These little ink bottles would have been once as common as milk bottles were. However like a lot of early 'disposables' they weren't treated with the reverence they now command, so few can be found in a totally pristine condition.
This one is a second that's been salt fired quite roughly which gives it all the more rustic charm.
From base to its lip 4 1/2 inches / 11.5 cm.
Its heavy solid clay base measures 2 inches / 5 cm across
Makers were "LOVATT & LOVATT. NOTTS. LANGLEY MILL".
These rough cast, salt-glazed and fired bottles have a wonderful array of shadow and shade, from a light clay shade to the dark glazed finish. The base of unglazed clay adds interest as to the clay used in this period.
Please take note: As stated this is a second due to its rogue glazing. It has a small chip under the rim and an even smaller one on the inner mouth of the bottle. look at the photos carefully they have been taken to display these flaws and as you can see do little to detract from its display. The price bis lowered to reflect its condition.
