This tribal ceremonial Timorese utensil was used by tribes in the Timor Islands in the past, and still made and used daily by the Atoni Tribe.
In this humble piece of bamboo, we find Timorese Art at its least affected.
It is used to store Betel Nut and lime powder, which plays an important role in tribal daily life.
Lavishly hand decorated and carved. The bamboo is dry and shows some fading over its lifetime.
However, this is a genuine artefact and its beauty is not diminished.
It could be used as a Unique way to store an important document.
Inside the holder there a still traces of lime powder.
It measures 22.8 cm long and 4 cm across.
